Caring for our World and Animals
How we can care for Our World, Our Animals?
-
Landscape with thoughtfulness. Removing trees may mean removing homes to birds, squirrels and other animals. Fertilize sparingly and safely, especially near water sources.
-
Don’t feed any animals except birds. Nuts and seeds are best.
-
Keep you cats indoors. They naturally go after birds but don’t necessarily eat them.
-
Pick up trash you see, and never litter. Small animals can get trapped in containers, and DYK turtles mistake garbage bags and other plastics for jellyfish which are a staple in their diet.
-
Select animal friendly plants for your garden.
-
Join a wildlife conservation group. My favorite are the World Wildlife Foundation.org and Marine Resource Council.org.
-
Reduce your carbon footprint. Drive only when necessary, and car pool when possible. Keep your home a little warmer in the summer and a little cooler in the winter.
-
Get out and vote for candidates that support conservation efforts, and who fund the Environmental protection agency.
-
Recycle, repurpose, reuse. All those plastic containers need to go in the recycle bin or be used for another function.
-
Be an educated consumer. Eat less meat, especially beef. Do not buy products with feathers or fur. Never buy exotic animals.
